My intentions with this project were to look how waste is disposed off, and what services have been put in place around the local area to do this. my first point of research was to look through the Medway council website, and read through their Waste Management Initiative. After reading this, i contacted the head of waste managment for the medway council, Steve Barker, who gave me more information on areas around medway where rubbish is recycled. My visual inspiration for this project started with the work of Edward Burtynski, more specifically his set of images focusing on the Metal recycling in Ontario, Canada. Following this research, i decided to set out and hunt locations, focusing on recycling for my project. I had set out for these images to be in a photojournalistic style, for later use in a newspaper.
I was happy with my final images. Instead of focusing on the problem of waste and recycling, they are meant to be more of a celebration of what the council is doing to combat these problems. I would have liked to have gone to a few more locations for the project to broaden the area that i was covering, but i think the locations i did visit were the best for this project.
